Are Wirefree / Wireless Alarms Reliable ?
MYTH – Wireless alarm systems are less reliable than hard wired systems.
FACT – This may be the case with some ‘out of the box’ DIY systems but there are many professional grade systems now on the market. Wireless technology has come a long way in the past couple of years and the latest systems are as good, if not better than hard wired systems. Be very careful if purchasing wireless systems from the Internet and on-line auctions, most are cheap imports and the frequencies they use are easily ‘jammed’ by an intruder with a simple device that can be purchased easily for less than £10. The intruder could then gain access to your property without setting off the alarm. Visible aerials on sensors and detectors usually denote a cheap system but this is not always the case. There are no unsightly aerials on any of our system components.
MYTH – Wireless alarm sensors and detectors need the batteries replaced every 6 months or less and batteries are expensive.
FACT – This would certainly be the case in some cheaper systems. Our sensors use inexpensive lithium batteries that last at least 2 years and can be changed easily by the customer.
When choosing a wireless alarm system please ensure that it uses the 868 mhz frequency. This is the european standard alarm frequency. Any other frequency and the system may be unreliable and could even be illegal. Also ensure that any alarm system you choose is EN50131 certified. This is the european standard for alarm systems and is the only way you can ensure that what you are purchasing is reliable and safe. All our alarm systems are EN50131 certified and our wireless systems use 868 mhz.
A wireless alarm system that utilises TWO WAY wireless technology is the only way that you can be guaranteed reliability. Sensors on ONE WAY wireless alarms can be ‘asleep’ for up to 8 minutes after you leave your property and the alarm will not operate if your home is broken into inside this time frame. The intruder may then disarm the alarm system without setting it off.
Always choose the latest ‘ TWO WAY ‘ wireless alarm system, it’s the only way you can be guaranteed reliability and peace of mind.
